WASTE MANAGEMENT HELPS TRUCK IN ITEMS FOR KAPOLEI COMMUNITY CLEAN UP
Company Donates Money for Trucks and Water for Volunteers
Kapolei, Hawaii, Feb. 13, 2007 - Helping to further two community
objectives; increasing recycling and supporting area schools, Waste
Management of Hawaii has partnered with Kapolei High School for its upcoming
community clean-up project. Students will be raising money by collecting
unwanted items from local residents and then recycling them for cash. The
event will take place Feb. 17 from 8 am until 2 pm in the school's parking
lot.
To collect items that people cannot bring to the school themselves, Waste
Management has donated money to rent trucks that will be used to gather
items directly from residents. WM has also donated cases of bottled water
for the students and other volunteers assisting with the project.
To help clean up the community, organizers are asking local residents to
bring items such as scrap metal, appliances, cardboard, tires and useable
clothing and household items. The items will then be recycled and their
cash value will be donated back to the high school.
"Waste Management has always been a great community partner and we grateful
for its donations which will help us clean up the local area, collect more
items and raise even more money," said Wendy Sefo, legislative aide for
Councilmember Todd Apo.
According to Russell Nanod, Community Affairs Manager for Waste Management
of Hawaii, the company has worked with Kapolei High School on various
clean-up projects, including two recent efforts at Hau Bush Beach Park - Get
The Drift and Bag It. "The high school is a vital part of our community so
we never hesitate when they ask for assistance, especially when it comes to
such important endeavors as recycling and keeping our community clean," he
said.
