"Keep the Hawaiian Islands Beautiful" Receives Target City Grant Award From Waste Management
Organization To Receive $5,000 For Clean Up Efforts
Kapolei, Hawaii, March 30, 2009 - Waste Management recently honored Keep The Hawaiian Islands Beautiful, a newly established 501(c)(3) state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc., as a recipient of its Target City Grant Award. The organization will be awarded a $5,000 grant, which is a part of a nationwide award open to Keep America Beautiful affiliates across the nation.
"I am pleased to be part of an organization that has such a significant impact on preserving the beauty and sustainability of Hawaii," said Dan Goodfellow, president of the Keep The Hawaiian Islands Beautiful board of directors. "I want to thank Waste Management for its support in the effort to 'Keep the Hawaiian Islands Beautiful'. Waste Management along with future contributors and volunteers can be assured that 100 percent of all funds raised will be used to fulfill our mission."
"We are honored to award Keep the Hawaiian Islands Beautiful with this grant," said Russell Nanod, community affairs manager for Waste Management of Hawaii. Nanod also serves as vice president to Keep The Hawaiian Islands Beautiful. "Hawaii is our home, and therefore, it is our kuleana to safeguard it. The mission of Keep The Hawaiian Islands Beautiful coincides with ours to preserve, protect and beautify the communities around us, so it is only second nature for us to support such a group."
Keep the Hawaiian Islands Beautiful is a recently formed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the beautification and sustainability of Hawaii. The organization is a certified affiliate of the national organization of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. Keep the Hawaiian Islands Beautiful board members include Jan Dapitan, Executive Director; Dan Goodfellow, president; Russell Nanod, vice president, Rene Mansho, secretary and Terry G. Telfer, director. There are currently three other certified Hawaii affiliates of Keep America Beautiful program, including Community Work Day Program (Maui), Nani O Waianae KAB Program (Oahu) and Keep Hawaii Beautiful (Big Island).
Waste Management of Hawaii operates the Waimanalo Gulch, West Hawaii and Kekaha Landfills as an integral part of each county's solid waste management infrastructure. The facilities handle municipal solid waste, which is heavily regulated, monitored and controlled by local, state and federal government agencies. In addition to its community contributions and significant volunteer efforts, Waste Management of Hawaii provides a benefit to the local economy of more than $2.9 million annually.
