WASTE MANAGEMENT OF HAWAII DONATES $1,000 TO WEST KAUAI KEIKI RODEO CHAMPIONS
Landfill Operator Sponsors Waimea Plantation Cottages Benefit Celebration
Waimea, Kauai, May 30, 2008 – Waste Management of Hawaii, which manages and operates the Kekaha Landfill on Kauai, recently donated $1,000 to sponsor the upcoming Waimea Plantation Cottages’ Hawaiian Celebrations on Kauai on Sunday, May 25. Proceeds from the event will go to the West Kauai Keiki Rodeo Champions to help fund their trip to state and national rodeo competitions.
“Waste Management is dedicated to helping the communities we serve and excited to see the young Kauai rodeo champs go all the way,” said Russell Nanod, community affairs manager for Waste Management of Hawaii.
The concert is part of Waimea Plantation Cottages’ “Hawaiianess” program created by Dr. George Kanahele, and focuses on providing Hawaiian cultural activities for the resort’s guests, but more importantly, the Kauai community. The celebration will be headlined by Grammy-winning recording artist and slack key guitar master Cyril Pahinui. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will also feature a Polynesian review, food booths and a silent auction. For more information, contact Lori Nilsen-Lemn at (808) 338-2331.
Waste Management of Hawaii operates Waimanalo Gulch, West Hawaii and Kekaha Landfills as an integral part of each county’s solid waste management infrastructure. The facilities handle municipal solid waste, which is heavily regulated, monitored and controlled by local, state and federal government agencies. In addition to its community contributions and significant volunteer efforts, Waste Management of Hawaii provides a benefit to the local economy of more than $2.9 million annually.
