Waste Management of Hawaii Supports 8th Annual Taste of Kapoleii
Kapolei, Hawaii - September 7, 2007 - Waste Management of Hawaii announced
today its $5,000 sponsorship of the 8th Annual Taste of Kapolei. The Taste
of Kapolei has raised more than $800,000 since 2000 and last year provided
$240,000 in scholarships, educational programs and grants for students from
the Leeward Coast.
"We are proud to support the outstanding efforts of the Kapolei Rotary and
it's chairman, Keola Lloyd, in creating an event that is second to none,"
said Dave Jappert, general manager of Waste Management of Hawaii. "Each year
Waste Management looks for organizations that are making a difference in our
community to support the good work they do for residents on the Leeward
Coast."
This sponsorship is part of Waste Management's commitment to support Leeward
Coast community projects. Recently, Waste Management announced its
sponsorship of the newly created Kapolei Mele which will be held on
September 15th as the newest addition to Oahu's Aloha Festivals Celebration.
Waste Management of Hawaii has operated Waimanalo Gulch Landfill as an
integral part of the City & County of Honolulu's solid waste management
infrastructure for more than 20 years. The facility is permitted to handle
municipal solid waste, which is heavily regulated, monitored and controlled
by local, state and federal government agencies. The facility's staff
includes 31 full-time employees, many of whom are active in the local
community. In addition to its community contributions and significant
volunteer efforts, Waste Management provides a benefit to the local economy
