Waste Management Donates $2,500 to Celebrate the Arts!

Contribution Sponsors 10 Local Art Students

Kapolei, Hawaii, October 2, 2008 - Waste Management of Hawaii recently donated $2,500 to this year’s Celebrate the ARTS! gala dinner hosted by the Hawaii Arts Alliance on Oct. 4 at the historic Hawaii Theater. The celebration honors Edith and Keiji Kawakami who will be honored with the 2008 Alfred Preis Award for a lifetime of commitment to the arts. The contribution will also help to sponsor the attendance of 10 local art students from the Arts Excellence Schools at a concert featuring talented local performers Manoa DNA, Reverend Dennis, David Kamakahi and upcoming ukulele star Neal Chin.

“The arts in Hawaii are a direct representation of the rich culture of our islands and the spirit of aloha,” said Joe Whelan, general manager of Waste Management Hawaii. “We wish to also congratulate two very special community members, Edith and Keiji Kawakami, as well as help cultivate and inspire our young local artistic talent.”

Waste Management of Hawaii remains dedicated to Hawaii’s youth and the communities it serves. The company also recently announced a $10,000 sponsorship of the Nanakuli Intermediate and High School Robotics Club.

The Hawaii Arts Alliance cultivates, sustains and celebrates all the arts as essential to a complete education and central to a vibrant community. Their mission is threefold: Teaching the arts and promoting education for children; improving the quality of life and creating opportunities for positive growth of communities through art; and promoting the arts by demonstrating the value of the arts and expanding access.
