Donation Helps to Provide Hot Meals and Emergency Food

Waikoloa, Hawaii, October 11, 2007 - Waste Management of Hawaii presented The Food Basket, Inc. a check for $2,500 today at the West Hawaii Landfill. The funds will help support some of the 12,000 to 14,000 requests The Food Basket receive every month.

"This donation means so much to The Food Basket and the people of Hawaii," said Barry Taniguchi, chairman of the board for The Food Basket. "Waste Management of Hawaii's donation helps support our mission to feed the hungry in Hawaii County..."

"The Food Basket plays such an important role in Hawaii County and it is our pleasure to help with its mission," said Dave Jappert, general manager of Waste Management of Hawaii. "Waste Management of Hawaii cares about the communities we serve and will continue to reach out to the organizations that best serve their needs."

The Food Basket, Inc. is a clearinghouse for food and non-food items that retailers, wholesalers and farmers would normally discard, and for food donated by the community through food drives.
